Here’s another establishment in the 6th arrondissement that has a Hemingway connection.  It is also an eating/drinking destination and UFR friendly, (accessible tables à  l’exterieur).  I had intended have lunch at a certain lovely little bistro in the 6th on a Sunday afternoon, and was disappointed to find it closed.  I was getting hungry and had no backup plan.  I headed east along Boulevard du Montparnasse and recognized the big red awning and sign.

Easy to spot and likely to have a place for you.

I was definitely hungry and ready to eat (or bite someone’s head off).  I was installed on a long banquette snugged in by a small table.  La Rotonde is a large place, but still the clientele are closely packed it.  Strangers become dining companions.  During my lunch hour (well, ok closer to 2) I had some delightful encounters.

My favorite “companion” was a gentleman I now refer to as Monsieur Meuniere because he ordered the <<Filet de Sole Meuniere>>.  It reminded me of Julia Child.  M. Meuniere liked Americans and was very knowledgable about our two Presidential candidates (Obama and Romney).  We chatted about cuisine and candidates in a language I call Franglish (aka Franglais).  I encourage you to try out your rusty French.  I hope you’ll be rewarded by interesting encounters.  Allons-y!
